Description
BN870MK 5.7" x 10" Magnetic Embroidery Hoop for Bernina
Spend less time hooping and more time embroidering.
The BN870MK is a metal magnetic embroidery hoop designed for select Bernina embroidery machines. It includes 4 long bar magnets and 8 short bar magnets, combining wide fabric coverage with flexible placement around corners and smaller sections.
Unlike a traditional screw hoop, the fabric and stabilizer are held against the metal base frame by removable magnets. Individual magnets can be lifted and repositioned without releasing the entire project, making fabric alignment faster and easier.

Why Choose the BN870MK?
Wide and Even Fabric Support
The four long magnets cover larger sections of the frame, helping hold fabric evenly along the longer edges.
The eight shorter magnets can be placed around corners and smaller areas where more targeted support is needed.
Faster Screw-Free Hooping
There is no hoop screw to tighten and no rigid upper frame to push into place. Simply position the stabilizer and fabric over the metal frame, then add the magnets.
Easy Local Adjustment
When one section needs repositioning, lift only the nearest magnet, smooth the fabric and place the magnet back. The remaining magnets continue holding the rest of the project.
Suitable for Many Materials
The magnetic design is useful for materials that may be difficult to secure in a traditional hoop, including:
- Terry towels
- Denim
- Sweatshirts
- Quilt sandwiches
- Knitted fabrics
- Home décor fabrics
- Bags and fabric panels
- Items with seams or thicker sections
Helps Reduce Hoop Marks
Because the fabric is held against the frame instead of being tightly compressed between two rigid hoops, the magnetic system can help reduce visible hoop impressions on textured or delicate materials.

FAQ
1. What is the benefit of combining long and short bar magnets?
The four long magnets provide wider coverage along larger fabric sections, while the eight short magnets offer more flexible placement around corners, curves and smaller areas.
This combination is useful when you want broad edge support without using a one-piece upper frame.
2. How is this different from a traditional embroidery hoop?
A traditional hoop clamps fabric between an inner and outer frame, usually with a tightening screw.
The BN870MK uses removable magnets to hold the fabric and stabilizer against a metal base. It is quicker to set up, and one section can be adjusted without completely re-hooping the project.
3. How does it compare with a magnetic hoop that uses a one-piece upper frame?
A one-piece upper frame can provide quick support for flat, regular fabrics.
The BN870MK uses separate magnets, so you can reposition only the magnet nearest the area that needs adjustment. The magnets can also be arranged around seams, pockets and other raised areas.
4. Is it suitable for towels, denim and quilted materials?
Yes. It can be used with many commonly embroidered materials, including towels, denim, sweatshirts and quilt sandwiches.
Actual holding performance depends on the fabric density, stabilizer, seams and total material thickness.
5. What is the maximum fabric thickness it can hold?
As a general reference, the magnets can hold many fabric and stabilizer combinations around 2–3 mm thick.
However, performance varies depending on material density, raised seams, stabilizer thickness and magnet placement. Test the setup before embroidering a finished or valuable item.
6. Can I use it for items with seams, pockets or zippers?
Yes. Position the shorter magnets around raised or uneven sections and place the longer magnets along flatter fabric edges.
Keep all magnets, zippers and bulky parts outside the needle and carriage movement area.
7. Can I stitch a design larger than the 5.7" x 10" embroidery area?
A larger design must first be divided into multiple accurately aligned sections.
The separate magnets make it easier to release and reposition the fabric, but registration marks, suitable embroidery software and careful alignment are still required.
The hoop does not increase the maximum embroidery area supported by the machine.
8. Is this hoop useful for a home embroidery business?
It can be a practical choice for users who hoop frequently.
Faster setup, easier fabric adjustment and reduced re-hooping may help improve workflow when producing towels, garments, quilt blocks and personalized items.
Actual time savings depend on the project type and working method.
9. What should I do if my machine does not recognize the hoop?
First, make sure the attachment bracket is fully connected to the embroidery module.
Then:
- Remove and reinstall the hoop.
- Restart the machine if necessary.
- Select an appropriate supported hoop size or embroidery area.
- Follow the machine manual for custom or third-party hoop setup.
- Run the layout or embroidery-area check before stitching.
Do not begin embroidery until you have confirmed safe clearance.
10. How can I position embroidery accurately near a corner?
Use the included grid template.
Align its reference lines with the edge or corner of the item, mark the embroidery center, and then secure the fabric with the magnets. Use the machine’s layout or tracing function to verify the final position.
11. Should I also buy a smaller hoop?
A hoop size close to the embroidery design generally provides better fabric support.
The BN870MK is suitable for medium and larger designs. A smaller hoop may be more convenient for small designs because the fabric is held closer to the stitching area.
12. How should I clean the frame and magnets?
Use a soft brush, lint roller or a short burst of compressed air to remove lint and loose thread.
Wipe the frame and magnet covers with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth, then dry them completely. Avoid soaking the frame or using sharp metal cleaning tools.
13. How should I store the hoop?
Store the frame flat in a clean, dry indoor location.
Keep the magnets attached to the frame or separated with protective spacing. Avoid excessive heat, moisture, dropping or strong impact.
14. Is an instruction guide available?
Yes. A usage guide can be provided or linked on the product page.
Customers should also refer to the original Bernina machine manual for embroidery-module installation, hoop setup and embroidery-area selection.
